Upper Murray 2030 Vision
We believe the Upper Murray region has enormous potential for economic development and diversification. However, the community is experiencing a range of challenges caused by factors including:
- structural changes in the agricultural sector
- changing demographics as the population ages
- an increased focus on tourism which provides challenges in a market with underdeveloped product offerings.
Launched in November 2016, the Upper Murray 2030 Vision Plan focuses on opportunities for the community. It provides a blueprint for future investment and action that reflects the community’s vision for the region.
About the plan
The Upper Murray 2030 Vision Plan identifies 'game changing' projects that can drive investment, sustainability, prosperity and health in the region.
It was developed in consultation with the community and under the guidance of a steering committee made up of locals from across the area.
Upper Murray Business Incorporated has championed the project in partnership with:
- Upper Murray Health and Community Services
- Towong Shire Council
- Snowy Valleys Council
- key members of the local community.
The Victorian State Government contributed $150,000 towards the Upper Murray 2030 Vision Plan through Regional Development Victoria.
The future of the region
Towong Shire Council is keen to see similar outcomes to the Tallangatta Tomorrow Masterplan, which has generated over $6 million of funding into Tallangatta through comprehensive planning and community consultation.
At Council, we see our role as that of a catalyst for change in the Upper Murray region, working hand-in-hand with key community stakeholders.
