Welcome to Towong Shire, home to some of Australia's most magnificent natural environments.

Located in far North East Victoria, our Shire is nestled in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains and bordered by the Murray and Mitta Mitta Rivers. It spans over 6,600 square kilometres of unique wilderness areas, pristine waterways and sprawling national parks.

More than 6,000 residents – spread throughout quaint country towns, villages and regional areas – call Towong Shire home. It's an agricultural hub, with thriving beef, dairy and forestry industries driving employment.

Public dump points

Towong Shire is a spectacular part of the world, and a great place to explore by motorhome or caravan. However, to help us keep our Shire pristine, it's important that you only dispose of waste at designated dump points.

There are four public dump points in Towong Shire:

  • Corryong Saleyards, Cnr Donaldson Street and Stock Route Road
  • Dartmouth, at Murtagh Place
  • Tallangatta Showgrounds, Cnr Coorilla and Werama Streets (approximately 100 metres from front gate)
  • Walwa Community Recovery Centre, O'Halloran Street.

The dump points are well sign-posted, and it's free to dispose of waste at these locations.
