Towong planning scheme
The Towong Planning Scheme is the instrument under the Planning and Environment Act 1987 that regulates the use and development of land within the Shire.
The Towong Planning Scheme specifies that certain types of use or development can only be carried out if a planning permit is granted.
The purpose of the Towong Planning Scheme is to:
- provide a clear and consistent framework within which decisions about the use and development of land can be made
- express state, regional, local and community expectations for areas and land uses
- provide for the implementation of state, regional and local policies affecting land use and development.
Land may be used or developed only in accordance with the Towong Planning Scheme. If the Scheme allows a particular use of land, it may be developed for that use provided all requirements of the Scheme are met.
A Council planning officer will advise when a planning permit is required, and provide guidance on the information required to be submitted. You can contact our planning department on 1300 365 222 or info@towong.vic.gov.au.
