Tallangarra Creek Bridge opens
A major upgrade to the High Country Rail Trail is now complete, with a new steel-truss bridge over Tallangatta Creek at Bullioh officially open to the public.
The new bridge replaces the original 70-metre timber trestle bridge, which was washed away in the 2010 floods. Designed to withstand increased flood risks, the 30-metre single-span bridge provides a safer and more seamless experience for cyclists, walkers, and runners along the 81-kilometre trail from Wodonga to Shelley.
Parklands Albury Wodonga and Towong Shire Council worked collaboratively to deliver this critical infrastructure, ensuring improved safety for all rail trail users. The project was made possible through a $500,000 grant from the Federal Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery program.
The bridge was officially opened on 19 March 2025, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Councillors, traditional land-owners and community members. The long-awaited upgrade eliminates the need for trail users to detour onto the Murray Valley Highway, improving safety and accessibility for all.
