What’s Pub Tucker Month?
Towong Shire Council is proud to announce Pub Tucker Month, a four-week celebration of the hearty pub meals on offer at Towong Shire’s classic country pubs.
Whether it’s the Sunday roast with the family, a hefty Friday night steak after a big week of work, a classic curry for something different or the trusty Saturday arvo beer garden chicken parma there’s really nothing that compares to a good pub feed. The big servings, relaxed atmosphere, local produce, and a sense of history all come together to create that feel-good country pub vibe that you simply can’t get at a winery or a restaurant in town.
And in case you needed any more encouragement to hop in the car and discover these historic hotels, when you buy any main meal at two of the Shire’s pubs during February 2023, you’ll earn $30 off your main meal at a third pub.
Come celebrate Pub Tucker Month with us in Towong Shire.

- Try your hand fishing the Murray River for cod, the Mitta River for trout or bring your boat and tackle the trophy fish in Lake Dartmouth.
- Camp beside the water at Walwa, Colac Colac, Clarke Lagoon, Mitta Mitta or Nariel Creek.

About Towong Shire
Towong Shire is positioned in far north-eastern Victoria and is renowned for its pristine and scenic countryside. Bordered to the north and east by the mighty Murray River, the Shire features a myriad of welcoming towns and villages between its peaks, valleys, rivers and forests.
On New Year’s Eve 2019, the Black Summer Bushfires entered Towong Shire, confronting the region with the biggest natural disaster residents had ever faced. Fire swept through the region’s agricultural and bush landscape, leaving 33% of the Shire burnt within days. For weeks following the bushfires, residents struggled without power and water and were physically isolated, businesses were unable to operate due to no services or lack of access to goods, and visitors were unable to enter the area to support the local economy.
Compounding the impact of the bushfires, the emergence of COVID-19 and its ongoing effects put a strain on small businesses within the Shire, particularly those from the hospitality and tourism sector. Townships along the NSW border were particularly impacted due to the Border restrictions preventing (otherwise regular) trade from NSW residents. Towong Shire Council is proud to be hosting Pub Tucker Month to help with the region’s ongoing recovery from these most difficult few years.
