Draft plans for Mitta Mitta Streetscape Project now on display
Draft plans for upgrades to Mitta Mitta Streetscape are now on display for community feedback.
Towong Shire Council has recently received funding through Regional Roads Victoria for Stage 1 one of this project which includes improvement to safety, functionality and aesthetics of the Mitta Mitta’s streets, parking and footpaths to help manage increasing traffic.
The streetscape project intends to deliver:
Stage 1
- New kerb, safe pedestrian crossings and carparking at the Omeo Highway and La Fontaine Street intersection
- Pedestrian and cyclist footpaths through the town centre and links to nearby reserves
- Long vehicle carparking
Stage 2
Council have recently applied for further funding to support Stage 2 which includes:
- A shared pedestrian and cycling bridge across the Mitta Mitta River to connect the recreation reserve to the future mountain bike park
- Refurbishment of the toilet block at Paddy’s Reserve
Towong Shire Council Mayor Andrew Whitehead said he is excited to see Council delivering on Council Plan priorities that support Mitta Mitta as a growing tourist destination.
“When developing the Council Plan the feedback was clear – our communities see investment in our townships as key to making them even more desirable places to live and visit.”
“As visitation to the Mitta Valley increases, the safety of both locals and visitors is paramount - especially with the development of the Mitta Mountain Bike Park. These upgrades will make the township safer for both road users and pedestrians,” he said.
