Stage 2 of the Great River Road Project is underway!
Towong Shire Council is excited to announce that Stage 2 of the highly anticipated $5 million Great River Road Project is well underway.
The project aims to enhance the experience of the existing 153km Great River Road from Bellbridge to Khancoban, to make it a premier destination for drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, bushwalkers and campers.
It includes the delivery of walking trail projects that were identified by the Shire’s Community Recovery Committees (CRC’s) as key to assisting in the ongoing recovery process. Other items include wayside stops and sculptures to compliment the works undertaken in Stage 1.
The project is being funded with the support of the Victorian Government's Bushfire Recovery Regional Economic Stimulus and Resilience Fund.
Towong Shire Council Mayor David Wortmann said the Council has been working closely with the CRC’s to bring the projects to fruition.
“Council has been working with the CRC’s to design key elements at each site, including plant and tree species, seating and lighting styles, artwork, information board themes and more” he said.
The next step will include commissioning large-scale artwork pieces for the four wayside stops and the creation of content and artwork for the information boards across all sites.
