Towong Shire Council presents its Budget 2021/22
Towong Shire Council Mayor David Wortmann said the Council is pleased to present its Budget 2021/22 to residents and ratepayers of Towong Shire.
“As our communities continue to recover from the catastrophic bushfires of 2019/20 and the ongoing world-wide pandemic, this Budget provides the investment to support the growth and vibrancy of our Shire into the future,” he said.
Highlights include a substantial $25.5m capital works budget, supported by over $13m in State and Federal grant funding. Key projects include:
- Commencement of Great River Road upgrades to develop its status as a premier touring route
- Completion of the Corryong CBD and Mitta Mitta streetscape upgrades
- Upgrade of the Corryong Stock Route to provide an alternative route for large trucks
- Ongoing safety upgrades including Georges Creek Road, Yabba Road and Lake Road
- Further development of the High Country Rail Trail
- Continuation of upgrades at the Colac Colac Caravan Park
The Budget will also continue to support the services that our communities' value, such as early years services, planning and building functions, and community and economic development programs.
Rates will increase by 1.5%, in line with Victoria’s Fair Go Rates System which caps council rate increases in line with inflation.
The Mayor said that the Budget has been based on ongoing community consultation. “We always welcome your suggestions as to how we can make our Shire an ideal place to live,” he said.
