Towong Shire community gets creative!
Towong Shire Council is proud to showcase some amazing creative projects that have taken place in our Shire in the last 6 months.
As part of the Victorian Government's Working for Victoria Program, the Council provided jobs for unemployed people – whether they lost their jobs due to the impacts of COVID-19 or have been without work for a longer period of time.
Project 1
Evette Pepper activated the Davis Cottage Arts Centre, which can now be used by local creatives for things like regular group meetings, as a creative studio or for public exhibitions. To book the space, contact Joe Calvert, Co-ordinator Recreation, Arts and Culture on 1300 365 222 or info@towong.vic.gov.au.
Project 2
Mel Naismith coordinated an event for local musicians called 'Make Music your Business'. The event featured guest speakers from the music industry who gave attendees tips and tricks for how to build their profile in the music industry.
Project 3
Kate Crowley designed a project called 'Sounds Like Us', which was activated by Mel Naismith and Josh Liston. Mel recorded stories from a variety of local creatives, from painters and poets to musicians, finding out what inspires them and what brought them to Towong Shire. Josh is busy editing the stories which will be released later in the year.
Towong Shire Council Mayor David Wortmann thanked the community artists for all their hard work in pulling these initiatives together.
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to Evette, Mel and Kate for designing and coordinating these amazing projects.”
“I’d also like to thank the community members that have volunteered their time to be involved,” he said.
