Demographics and statistics
Towong Shire is located in North East Victoria, about 300 kilometres north-east of Melbourne. The Shire covers a land area of over 6,600 km².
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) 2021 Census Data, Towong Shire has a population of 6,223 people. The median age is 52 years, with 50.9% of the population being male and 49.1% being female.
Most of the population is spread across the Shire, mostly in rural townships. The largest township is Corryong, with 1,352 residents, followed by Tallangatta, with 1,175 residents.
