About the project
The aged and deteriorating Tallangatta Holiday Park will be redeveloped to meet visitor expectations and industry standards, grow visitation to the region, stimulate the local economy and create jobs.
Tallangatta Holiday Park Planning Study (2014)
The Tallangatta Holiday Park is located on the foreshore of Lake Hume featuring 45 annual, 5 permanent, 75 powered sites and 25 camp sites. The land is owned Victorian Government and its management and control is overseen the Goulburn Murray Water Authority (GMW). Historically a popular holiday destination for young families and older people, the park has experienced a significant downturn in visitation over the past ten years, during a prolonged period of drought and very low water levels in Lake Hume.
Council is interested in the Park’s future and available options that could reinvent the park as a vibrant business. The Park is viewed as an important community asset.
Council engaged Southern Cross Parks, highly experienced consultants in the field of park management and operations, to investigate the potential of the Tallangatta Holiday Park as a key economic, tourism and social asset for Tallangatta.
Southern Cross Parks completed a thorough analysis of the park, its target markets, demand and potential future concepts. Their study also establishes the framework for future development of infrastructure and suggests proven successful operational and business models.
The vision for the park is supported by a series of management objectives, a change in the site use to include more onsite accommodation options, new relocatable amenities/camp kitchen, drive-through powered sites and a master plan which includes a range of capital works improvements.
Stage 1 (2019)
The project delivered:
- An accessible amenities block
- A camp kitchen and BBQ facilities
- A reception / kiosk building with veranda at the park entrance
- Glamping tents
- Resealing of roadways at the entrance
- Drainage upgrades
Stage 2 (2021)
The project will deliver:
- A sealed walking path along the foreshore
- New playground equipment with shade sail at the camp kitchen
- Refurbishment of the existing western amenities block
- Blinds on the Western side of the existing camp kitchen
- Lighting
- Road repairs
