In 2014, Council engaged park management consultants Southern Cross Parks to investigate Tallangatta Holiday Park's potential as a key economic, tourism and social asset for Tallangatta.
Project background
Located on the foreshore of Lake Hume, the park has historically been a popular holiday destination for families and older people. However, over the past 10 years – a period of drought and very low water levels in the Hume – visitor numbers have declined significantly. A corresponding lack of investment has also led to a decline in the quality and quantity of amenities at the site.
Despite these challenges, community engagement during the development of the Tallangatta Tomorrow Masterplan showed that the park is seen as an important community asset.
Maximising the park's potential
In their study, Southern Cross Parks analysed the park, consulted with stakeholders and guests on how the park could be improved and provided frameworks and proven operational models for future developments.
Based on the study's findings, we're driving a vision for the park that includes more onsite accommodation options, new relocatable amenities, drive-through powered sites and a range of capital works improvements.
Stage one of the Tallangatta Lakelands Holiday Park Works were completed in 2019, including building upgrades and road works. We are now seeking further funding to complete the remaining works.
