Accommodation Registration

Prescribed accommodation includes bed and breakfast establishments, residential accommodation, hotels and motels, and hostels where five or more residents are able to be cared for. These must be registered with Council under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008. Specific requirements relating to the prescribed accommodation presmises are the Health (Prescribed Accommodation) Regulations 2001. 

Inspections by Council's Environmental Health Officers aim to address issues relating to:

  • Overcrowding;
  • Maintenance and cleanliness;
  • Number of fixtures such as showers, toilets, handwash basins, etc., per persons accommodated;
  • Water supply; and
  • Refuse collection and disposal.
