Walwa Capital Projects 2018

The spotlight is certainly on Walwa at the moment with two major projects getting underway this year – the Walwa streetscape upgrade and the Shelley-Walwa Road upgrade. Community information sessions for both projects are scheduled in coming weeks and we encourage everyone in the Walwa community to get along to the sessions to learn more.

In its Council Plan 2017 - 2021, Council committed to a 4-year town beautification and improvements program, with Walwa the first town to receive an upgrade. Works proposed for Walwa include pedestrian and traffic safety improvements, as well as enhancements to the appearance of the main street.

Council is hosting information sessions to share the proposed plans with the community, as well as provide an opportunity for residents to have input into the design process.

Date: Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 January

Venue: Walwa Hall

Time: 3.00pm, 4.00pm and 5.00pm

Registration essential on 02 6071 5100.

VicRoads will start sealing the final 7 kilometres of the Shelley Walwa Road shortly, courtesy of a funding partnership between the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments, HVP Plantations and Council.

To enable VicRoads road work crews to undertake this major upgrade, the Shelley-Walwa Road will be closed to through traffic for a period of up to one year. Access for local residents will be maintained during this period. VicRoads made this road closure decision based on the safety of motorists, work crews and heavy vehicle operators.

Community information sessions, hosted by VicRoads, will be held as follows:

Date: Wednesday 7 February

Venue: Walwa Bush Nursing Centre

Time: 10.30am

Date: Wednesday 7 February

Venue: Corryong Neighbourhood Centre

Time: 1.00pm
