Towong Shire Council Roadside Weed and Pest Management Plan

Towong Shire Council is seeking community feedback in relation to its Roadside Weed and Pest Management Plan.

The plan outlines Council’s proposed approach to tackling invasive weeds and pests that can infiltrate the Shire’s roadways.

Towong Shire Council manages a local road network of approximately 1,183km and this includes managing weed infestations on Council managed land. This plan is our commitment to the early prevention and control of roadside weeds in our Shire.

Through past State Government funding initiatives Council has already monitored and treated approximately 2,500km of roadsides for Regionally Controlled and Regionally Prohibited weeds as well as established pest animals. This plan outlines the next phase of management activities required to respond to the threat and impact of weeds and pest animals on the Towong Shire’s local biodiversity and agricultural industry.

Towong Shire targeted species include:

  • Rabbit
  • Blackberry
  • Sweet Briar
  • St Johns Wort
  • Hawthorn
  • Californian thistle

Residents are welcome to view the plan here or visit the Council offices in Tallangatta and Corryong. Submissions and feedback can be emailed to info@towong.vic.gov.au or mailed to the Towong Shire Offices, 32 Towong Street, Tallangatta, Victoria 3700. Submissions close on 30 April 2017.
